Gloria S. Daly
Biography
Gloria S. Daly grew up on Vancouver Island, BC. She holds an Associate Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences, Master Design Certificate Embroiderer’s Guild of America Inc., certificates in Design, Embroidery & Creative Quilting; City & Guilds, UK; receiving awards from BC Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts and SDA.
Five solo shows across Canada, her latest exhibition Blanket Statement: No Shame in Patches. Juried participant in 2016 SAQA Stories of Migration, Contemporary Artists Interpret Diaspora, George Washington University Museum, The Textile Museum.
Daly works as a visual artist working primarily in textiles, creating installations, and wall hangings for corporate and private patrons. She examines through narrative, deconstructing, reconstructing and altering vintage blankets and other used material goods to tell stories concerning historical and current human issues. Her use of repurposed materials evidences her concern of environmental sustainability and the inequitable use of today’s’ resources.
